Jesus said in Matthew 5:17,18 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”

But atheists says there are verses that “prove” there is a contradiction in the Bible. One such verse is Colossians 2:14 “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;”

Is there a contradiction? Let’s find out.

The confusion for some, and the reason others call this a contradition is because of the interplay of the words “law” “ordinances” and “covenants.” But the Bible is very clear which law is being referenced.

The Bible tells us which laws we no longer live by and some that will never be abolished. And these are found in the four laws that were given to the Israelites.

1. The universal Law of the Ten Commandments

The Ten Commandments are essentially the Constitution of heaven.

2. The religious ceremonial laws

These laws were even shown in the book of Daniel to one day cease. ““And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, . . .” (Daniel 9:27). This why you don’t see animal sacrifices no longer practiced today.

3. The health laws

These laws were written specifically to keep the Israelites disease free. Certain animals were forbidden as food because they contained parasites. Some laws talked about washing other foods in order to get rid of diseases. Many foods were not cooked thoroughly and the laws prevented such diseases as trichenosis. And these laws are as beneficial today as they were back then. Consider Exodus 15:26: “. . . If you will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord your God, and will do that which is right in his sight, and will give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon you, that I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that heals you.” If people perfectly obeyed God and kept the health laws today they would NEVER be sick.

4. The civil laws

These were laws that which held the Israel government strong. These were laws the covered punishment for crimes. Many of our own laws are based upon these laws. When someone is convicted of murder, for instance, the murderer should be put to death swiftly in order to discourage others from this sin. “Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed. . . .” And “. . . blood defiles the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.” (Genesis 9:6, Numbers 35:33).

So how do we know what Law the New Testament is talking about?

We have II Timothy 3:15 saying the entire Old Testament is applicable. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” But what many forget is at that time all there was, was the Old Testament.

But in Psalms 111:7-9, it says that the God’s Commandments will stand forever. “The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure. They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness. He sent redemption to his people: he has commanded his covenant for ever: holy and reverend is his name.”

Psalms specifically tells us that the Commandments will never cease to exist. So it’s quite evident that God’s covenant is not the law that will be discontinued in time.

Another Law that will not be discontinued deals with the Sabbath. Ecclesiastes 3:14 makes it very clear that God will never change or abolish His Sabbath day. “I know that, whatever God does, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God does it, that men should fear before him.”

God made it very clear that at the end of the creation week, that He blessed it, sanctified it, and made the Sabbath Holy. Ecclesiastes 3:14 makes it clear that God’s seventh-day Sabbath, Saturday, will remain blessed, sanctified and holy throughout all eternity.

Jesus tells us to live by every word out of the mouth of God in Matthew 4:4. “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” What came directly out of the mouth of God were the Ten Commandments. These were the only verses that God wrote Himself, and gave to Moses.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:17,18 that He did not come to abolish the Law. “I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.”

But which Law was Jesus talking about? It was the Law that Jesus created from eternity, the Ten Commandments. So there is no contradiction, as the atheists contend. The only law that has not discontinued is the Law of the Ten Commandments.

Acts 13:39

God forgives all sin, correct? And then the following verse is shown.

³⁹And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

 

 

But then the atheists state that the Bible contradicts itself within the Gospel of Mark.

Mark 3:29

²⁹But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.

Is there a contradiction? Absolutely not.The Book of Acts does not state that there is no unpardonable sin. It merely states that all who believe are justified.

In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus says that blasphemy is unforgiveable. What are blasphemers? It’s those who never believe in Jesus Christ. Those who blaspheme against the Holy Spirit are rebelling against God, thus rejecting salvation.

Thus returning back to the Book of Acts, you see that only those who BELIEVE are justified. So those who do not believe are blasphemers.

Is the Exodus account true? The Bible states that thousands of Hebrews escaped across the parted Red Sea while thousands of Eyptians drowned when the sea swallowed them up. Is it a myth?

Well, the scientific community decide to find out for once and all. They took a diving team down into the Red Sea.

And they found……..

Matthew 1:16

This is where the atheists really start salivating. They start with this verse regarding Joseph’s pedigree:

¹⁶And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

This shows the father of Joseph being Jacob.

Then to counter that, they cite the following verse:

Luke 3:23

²³And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

Could this really be a contradiction?

No, the skeptics are ignoring Jewish Levirite laws that state that when a man dies leaving behind a wife,  the man’s brother marries the widow (Deuteronomy 25:5-6).. In this case, it was Jacob who died and Heli married Ann.

Even in the story of Ruth, when her husband died, she married the next  male in the family  line, who was Boaz. And this tradition or law continued all the way through to Joseph’s lineage.

So again, the myth of contradictions is exposed.

Genesis 1:31

 And here the atheists think they’ve found proof that there are contradictions in the Bible.

We all know this passage:

But then atheists start dancing when they read the following:

Genesis 6:6

⁶And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Atheists feel they’ve proven that there is a serious discrepency, but they fail here and fail big due to taking verses out of context. They seem to forget that something dramatic happened between chapter 1 and chapter 6 and that was the fall  of mankind in the Garden of Eden. When God created the earth, all was good. When man rebelled, he grieved.

Again, no contradiction.

Genesis 1:25-27

Antagonists would like us to believe that there is a huge gaping hole right in the Book of Genesis when it comes to the creation of man. They cite the following verse that they feel supports the notion that man was created after the animals.

²⁵And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

²⁶And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

²⁷So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Then they use the next passage as their “gotcha” passage which they feel shows the total opposite, that God create man before He created animals:

Genesis 2:18-19

¹⁸And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

¹⁹And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

So which one is it? Was Adam created before or after the creation of animals?

To the atheist’s dismay there is no contradiction. The first chapter of Genesis is simply a synopsis of the creation. The second is just the chapter with more detail. The first chapter is a chronological order of the creation. The second chapter sums up the creation in just a few verses. In fact , if the skeptic would have read back to verse 4 of chapter 2, he would have seen that this chapter recounts the entire creation process all over again.

Chapter one deals with the creation of animals while chapter two deals with the naming of those animals. The first chapter is chronological, the second is topical. Chapter one gives the outline, chapter two fills in the details, thus proving there is no contradiction.
